Penn Electric Racing: Quick Jack

As a freshman at Penn Engineering, I quickly joined the Penn Electric Racing team because of my overwhelming interest in cars and racing. My first assignment upon joining this team was to the quick-jack subteam, where I helped other group members in designing a jack for the car on Solidworks. This jack has the added ability of a pushbar - meaning it can be used to push the car around the paddock.

During this project, I had my first exposure to the use of Solidworks Finite Element Analysis, which our subteam used to make sure the design of the jack would not fail when subject to certain forces. I also had my first introduction to jigging, which was used to secure the tube stock of the quick jack in place as the tubes were welded to one another. This jigging was designed on Solidworks and cut in MDF using the school's laser cutters.
